                                                                                               Effortless, she slips along glass like water

                                                                                          The kayak slices, peeling away the waters skin.

                                                                                                    Reflections of;

                                                                                Stars, clouds of this moonless night.

                                                                                          Threadlike wake mimics,

                                                                                      Attempts to tell the tale of the shooting stars.

                                                                                                     Yet slower, much slower.

                                                                                                              Curling outwards to port and starboard

                                                                                                    Fluorescent green, emerald.

                                                                                     Bioluminescence stimulated by such gentle intrusion.

                                                                                Looking into this enormous,

                                                                                Malleable mirror star counting.

                                                                                     An endless task.

                                                                                     Delicately paddled

                                                                                Reflected space traveler

                                                                                     maintaining her motion. 

                                                                                                Whistling crickets, tree ducks, pelicans,

                                                                                               Wild fowl jostle for roosting sites on

                                                                                                          forgiving mangrove limbs.

                                                                                                                       Pillars

                                                                                                     Aerial roots reaching, downwards

                                                                                                           Assist,  support

                                                                                                                             The Heavens mirrored on the waters skin

                                                                                                                         Venus, mars, the North Star

                                                                                                                             Gazing deeper     

                                                                                                                                                 Galaxies revealed

                                                                                                                                            More depth beyond

                                                                                                                                  Our wildest imagination.

                                                                                                                                  Irresistible I must stop paddling.

                                                                                                                                  Their swirling, their presence,

                                                                                                                              Revealed by illuminated plankton.

                                                                                                                                       Eyes adjust

                                                                                                                         Unperturbed, a green turtle

                                                                                                                                  Sense of sight Soaked by textures

                                                                                                                                             Rear sights

                                                                                                                                  Undisturbed by artificial light.

                                                                                          Humbled by my insignificance in all this creation.
